Full Story

“I never thought a pencil could be important. To me, it was just something I used for homework and tests. I always thought confidence came from being loud, popular, or good at sports. Writing felt quiet and boring, and I didn’t think it could change anything.

During the creative writing workshop, the instructor asked us to write about something that makes us strong. I stared at the blank page for a long time because I didn’t feel strong at all. Then I started writing about my fears—about being afraid to speak in class and worrying about what people think of me.

As I kept writing, the words started to feel easier. Every sentence felt like I was letting go of something heavy. I realized that the pencil was helping me say things I usually keep inside. It felt like I was standing up for myself, one word at a time.

By the time I finished my story, I felt different. I wasn’t louder, but I felt braver. That’s when I understood that a pencil can be a sword. It helps you fight doubt, tell your truth, and believe in your own voice.”
